Abstract

This study sought to examine the role of learning experiences on the career preferences of undergraduate students in built environment programs in South Africa. To achieve the study objectives, a survey of 229 purposively sampled university students registered in built environment programs was conducted. Although results from the regression analysis showed that the career choices of students in this study to undertake a career in the built environment, were not directly related to their previous learning experiences, the questionnaire survey revealed that performance accomplishment had a significant influence on students' persistence and career choices. Additionally, recommendations are made to improve the perception and attract students to built environment programs.
