About
Dr. Martin Röck is a climate impact and eco-social transformation scholar exploring life cycle sustainability dynamics of the built environment. His practice focuses on assessing and improving the climate and environmental impacts of buildings and building stocks at national and transnational scales. Martin and colleagues use life cycle-based assessment methods such as Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA), Building Information Modelling (BIM), Data Science and AI methods to support the development of benchmarks, targets, and policy pathways. Martin Röck has led policy-informing research projects for the European Commission and vairous national governments, as well as for leading private and public funders. Martin's insights help decision makers in industry and policy spaces identify and promote effective strategies for planning and implementing sustainable building design and regenerative spatial development. Martin advises policy makers and industry leaders at national, European, and global levels to support concrete actions to reduce environmental impacts and improve the life cycle performance of buildings. Martin received a Research Fellowship of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and previously researched and taught at KU Leuven (Belgium), ETH Zurich (Switzerland), UNICAMP (Brazil), and TU Graz (Austria). Today, Dr. Martin Röck is the Founder and Director of the RISE Institute for Regenerative Spatial Systems Science (Vienna, Austria) and Director of internationally-active GBDI, the Global Building Data Initiative (Lausanne, Switzerland).
